Happy 5th Birthday Henry!!! :)

Unbelievably, our Henry James is 5 today!!! I have a very hard time believing that is possible. Our sweet, hysterical, shark-obsessed, pajama-loving little honey badger is 5! Ahhh, time sure does fly :(

Henry really has put us through the ringer this year...I would be lying if I didn't say that this year was EXTREMELY challenging with him. His endless energy, crying, his inability to listen, failure to do anything himself, etc etc. (and did I mention his crying?!) have at times left us ready to pull our hair out. But I have seen a huge improvement in the past 6 months or so, and I'm hopeful things will continue to improve--he has to start kindergarten in a few short weeks, so he doesn't have much of a choice! He had better get with the program :)

Henry is 35lbs 8oz, and 40 3/4" tall...I don't know what percentiles he is in, but I would guess he's not very high up on the charts!

He has recently become a little bit of a better eater, but he still prefers to graze all day instead of eating real meals. He loves hot dogs, plums, pears, peaches, Greek salads, Thai food, and salted meats (haha). Oh, and all junk food! He has also recently acquired a love of bacon on a bagel--wonder where he got that from :)

Henry still loves wearing pajamas...if he had his way, he would never take them off! The second we get in the house, he wants his pjs on, and if we have to leave the house, it is very difficult to get him to take them off. He is obsessed with his stuffed animals, and has a new favorite every few days or so. I think he probably has a collection of about 150 stuffed animals at the point--we desperately need to thin the herd! :)

He is an absolute love, he's very sweet. He tells me I'm his girlfriend, and asks me out on dates. But if he gets mad at me, he starts crying and tells me "you are not my girlfriend and you don't have pretty eyes" haha, so he's very fickle.

He and Charlotte are best buddies 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time is rough, but all very normal. They have these very intricate play scenarios, where they transform an entire room to a restaurant or pet store or doctor's office or a spaceship, etc. They have wonderful imaginations, and it is so fun watching them create things together.

He is a great big brother, too. He really watches out for Eloise, and loves little kids and babies in general--but especially HIS baby. Henry will run to me and give me small items that she might put in her mouth, or tell me she is doing something she isn't allowed to be doing--always watching out for her! Unless she takes his toy, of course, and then she just gets shoved out of the way haha.

Henry had an infectious laugh, and is always amped up--such an amazing zest for life. I hope he never loses that.

He is incredibly smart. He has wonderful focus, as long as it is something he wants to do (if not, slim chance you can get him to pay attention for 6 seconds!).

Henry can create the most amazing things--give the child a box of Legos and he can make things that aren't even on the box, he just comes up with intricate compilations of his own. He loves Highlights and hidden pictures, puzzles, and arts & crafts.

He needs his downtime. He would still nap if he had his way. He loves TV time with his blankie, still sucking his pointer finger. He likes any show on Nick Jr or Disney Jr, but his favorites are still Paw Patrol and Bubble Guppies.

Henry doesn't really have a huge interest in sports yet, but maybe he will come around...or not :)

Anyway, we had a wonderful weekend celebrating Henry. We started at the beach, then had pool time, a birthday party, a bonfire, first sleepover with friends, more beach time, more pool time, a dinner out, and Carvel--phew!No wonder everyone is exhausted haha.

Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day, my goodness!

He told us he was "going to check the waves"...Jon's heart must've skipped a beat!
A surfer's essentials!
This one wasn't such a happy camper haha

Henry had his kiddie party in June before we left, so we invited had a few people to come to my parents' house to celebrate on Saturday. Every year we have the Kaufmann family out this weekend, so they were there, Pat Maddock stopped over, and Jess, Dave & Madison came as well...it was a great time. Most of these pics don't even have Henry in them because he was being Henry haha, but he did have a blast ;)
Eloise obsessed with his balloons!
Another series of pics where I attempt to get a picture with the kids--so funny!

After dessert, we moved the party to our rental house...Jon got the fire going, the kids ran around, made s'mores, and crashed! The adults stayed up too late and some drank way too much (ahem, Jon!!!)
