Lucky Mommy, Lucky Kids

One day before we came out east, I was outside our house with the kids…as usual, Charlotte was doing something to make us laugh, and the three of us were laughing hysterically. The head of Charlotte’s nursery school walked by just then, and she said “you guys always look like you’re having so much fun, and you (to me) seem to really enjoy them”. Which I do, obviously! But it was such a nice thing to say, and it is the absolute truth.

I LOVE the age Charlotte is at. She is just so incredibly entertaining, so funny, and I just never know what is going to come out of her mouth.  And I LOVE the age Henry is at as well.  He is learning new skills everyday, he has a constant smile on his face, and he is just such a love (I often call him a “subservient dog” in jest, because every single time I am sitting on the floor, he climbs right over into my lap and just rolls to his back, looking up at me to deliver his kisses/hugs!).

But most of all, I love watching Charlotte and Henry interact together…Henry still absolutely adores his big sister, and just melts into the biggest grin when he sees her or hears her voice.  And she loves “learning him” (translation: teaching him new things), “helping” to take care of him (translation: making whatever I am doing much harder/longer), and making him laugh.  Now that he is almost walking, he is definitely getting into her toys more often, and that brings about interaction of a slightly different nature, haha.  A lot of my job these days is to simply play defense, and to make sure that Henry isn’t pushed around under the guise of Charlotte’s “love”.  She tells me she is “hugging him”, “tickling him” or “loving him”, when in reality, he is in a choke hold. Here is the evidence:

Henry was most likely just sitting there quietly playing with a toy before Charlotte grabbed him from behind…

And she tackles him to the floor…

And then after Charlotte started using her legs around his head, mommy had to intervene and stop all of the “loving”

Yet, he seems to love it! For now :)  Whenever she is rough with him, I tell her she really only has a few more months as the bigger sibling.  At Henry’s 10 month appointment, he was 18lbs, 6oz (I forget how long…28.75” maybe???)…at her 3yr appointment, she was 25lbs. Soooo, at the rate he is eating (and believe me, he eats anything that moves slower than he does these days!), I think he will be pushing HER around before long.

Anyway, I digress…the reason why I entitled this post “Lucky Mommy, Lucky Kids” was because I really feel so incredibly fortunate to be home with the kids and spend so much time with them.  And I love that we are able to spend this time with my parents, as well…to say the kids adore them would kind of be the understatement of the year!  I think Mamie and Poppy are pretty fond of them, too (most of the time…maybe not today when Charlotte barged in on Poppy in the shower, haha).  We are so lucky to essentially be living in paradise…pools, beaches, picnics, boats, fishing, etc.  This is summer living at its best! :)

So, thank you mom and dad…I know it isn’t very easy to have two little kids (and their parents) to invade your home for the summer, but we really appreciate it!

Tidbits

Henry took two steps tonight before bed.  He has been standing for short periods of time—10-20 seconds before falling—and tonight he was brave enough to take a few steps towards Charlotte (…and then he fell).  When he tried this a few weeks ago, he fell and hurt his lip (which caused his lip to profusely bleed for a few days…his crib sheet resembled a crime scene the next morning), but he is SOOOOOO close now! I think we will officially have a walker in a few days, and he isn’t even 11 months old…craziness :)

I have a funny little Charlotte tidbit that I also wanted to share…the last day of school, when I went to pick her up, Miss Christina came up to me and told me that Charlotte told her “I like your earrings and I like your necklace, but they don’t match. You have to take one of them off…sorry” (pronounced, in Charlotte speak, as “sowwy”). Miss Christina simply got a taste of what I experience every morning when I get dressed, haha.  But the best part was that Charlotte was 100% right…they didn’t match :)

Another funny story…Charlotte is still (strangely?) interested in Henry’s bowel movements, and one day we had a pretty messy diaper…she looked at me incredulously, and said “Henry just pooped a lot out of his penis!”.  Ahhh, out of the mouths of babes :)

Okay, off to bed!

Professional Pictures

We had professional pictures taken at the end of April in Hempstead Lake Park…we used a photographer we had never used before (she was a recommendation from a friend), and to be honest, I didn’t really LOVE the pictures. I was so hoping to get a nice picture of the four of us, but the family shots were pretty awful…there wasn’t one picture where we all actually looked good. Henry pretty much refused to smile for the camera (and she actually captured it the few times he did, haha), so there aren’t very many good pictures of him. There are a few nice ones of Charlotte, though, and a few of the two of them that I like, so I guess it wasn’t a total loss :(

Here are some of the pictures from our shoot…

Testing. Testing

I have been MIA since we moved out east for the summer right before Memorial Day…mostly because my computer barely functions here at my parents’ house, and everything takes 14 times longer to upload. I wanted to get back into the habit, but before I write a whole long post about everything we’ve been up to, I wanted to do a little “test” :)

Here is one of my favorite recent pics of my kiddies…let’s see if this takes an hour and a half to publish!
