Once again, we had a fun-packed family weekend. On Friday, I took the kids to Atlantis Aquarium in Riverhead in the morning…they had fun looking at all of the fish, sea lions, etc., but the REAL highlight was the butterfly/bird exhibit that they had (just a coincidence too, because I had no idea it was there!). Here are some pics of our little adventure :)
My little dew drop…too cute
Charlotte was scared of the sharks…she was hiding behind me and Henry saying “oh no, shark…you’re not going to get ME”. Guess she didn’t care if it got me or Henry though? :)
Both of them were mesmerized by the colorful fish
Right before we entered the butterfly exhibit, they told me a) no strollers allowed (meaning I would attempt to carry Henry, but he would thrash out of my arms until he was walking) and b) the butterflies like to land on the ground, so you need to be extremely careful that you don’t step on them. The combination of those two statements made me a little nervous, haha…I was pretty confident that Henry was going to trample some rare butterflies :)
The butterfly set up…about 85 degrees in here
Henry pointing at the butterflies…the ones he repeatedly grabbed at and tried to swat, haha
And here is a video of the honey badger
After we walked around the butterfly exhibit, we realized there was a separate bird room, as well, where hundreds of birds are just flying around. Henry is quite obsessed with birds, and so I was excited for him. Charlotte, on the other hand, didn’t like the noise and was a little overwhelmed by the flying birds.
This bird refused to come to me for some reason! He would land on everyone else, but not me…kind of insulting, huh? :)
These birds stuck together, far out of the way of grabby little toddler hands
Here is a video of how Charlotte walked through the bird room
And this is what happens on the ride home after an exciting morning at the aquarium :)
Jon had been traveling the entire week, and didn’t get home until late Friday night, so by Saturday we were all looking forward to a “family day” (as Charlotte calls it). We decided to take the kids to Southampton to play at the park, and then out for lunch.
The kids played on the playground for a bit, but the real highlight was chasing the birds all over the grass.
No expression from Henry, as usual :)
All bundled up for the chilly (but beautiful) weather
Running after the birdies!
And here is our big girl eating her hamburger at Barrister’s and wearing her new J Crew headband :)
On Sunday, we had a professional photographer come and take some pictures of us…still trying to capture that elusive shot where all four of us are looking at the camera! Well, despite our repeated efforts, I don’t think it was meant to be this time…after about 2.5 minutes, the kids had had enough pictures and refused to cooperate. We had temper tantrums (Charlotte), a refusal to look at the camera and/or smile (Henry), and an inability to sit still (Charlotte, Henry and Jon). Oh well…we managed to get a few decent shots. Here are some of the teasers the photographer sent me…more to come when I get the CD back.
So, we definitely had a nice weekend, and we are looking forward to a family-packed holiday week ahead…fingers crossed the kids aren’t sick the entire time!
Xoxoxo
