Tonight at dinner, Charlotte was telling me all about the kids who got in trouble at school (as usual), and mentioned that one of them had to go into time out for hitting another boy. Henry piped up and said "a boy hit me at school", so of course Charlotte and I start bombarding him with questions--"who was it?", "where did he hit you?", "why did he hit you?", "What did the teachers do?", etc etc. After a few minutes, Charlotte got a sad look on her face, put her hand on Henry's shoulder, and said, "I'm sorry Henry, I should've been there to protect you". Melting. I asked her how she would've protected him, and she said "I would never leave his side and wouldn't let anyone be mean to him" haha.
Anyway, after a few minutes of us continuing to drill Henry about the incident, he admitted that the boy didn't hit HIM, but he hit the blocks Henry was building. And he was put in time out immediately. Phew :)
Charlotte's reaction, and the way she said it, reminded me of when James told Kathy (when he was about her age or a year or two older maybe?), "I'm sorry Kathy, I should've made time for you" when they were unable to schedule his birthday dinner. Too funny.
Xoxoxo
