Never Forget

Hard to believe it has been 12 years…yet, on this day, when all of the television and radio stations are showing pictures, videos, and playing audio from that day, it honestly feels like yesterday.

I was speaking to my friend Jamie today, as I do every year on Sept. 11th…we worked together at Lehman, and spent most of the weeks/months/years after the terror attacks together, often talking about our fears and how we were forever changed.  Today I said to Jamie, "is it weird that when I see the footage, I can still smell that awful, putrid stench that covered downtown for months (or longer)?", and she admitted the same thing.  How strange is that? 12 years later, and not only do we relive the intense fear, unlike anything we had ever experienced, but a simple picture can also conjure up a smell…crazy.

My heart just aches for all of the victims, and all of the families who lost loved ones…I always think of the panic victims and families must have felt…not knowing what is going on, or whether your parent/spouse/child/sibling would ever come home.  Makes me cry just to think about it..so devastating :(
