It Happened

Well, it happened.  The thing I had dreaded since before I became a parent.  The norovirus.  And it was every bit as bad as I had feared.  Made worse by the fact that I gave it to the rest of my family :(

We had Pat's retirement party Friday, and I was sick Saturday and Sunday…and then for 3-4 days after that I was still having bad stomach cramps and pains. But we still figured it was just food poisoning or something.  Well, Tuesday Henry wasn't himself at all…he was really cranky and unhappy.  And his diapers DEFINITELY weren't the same haha.  By Thursday early morning Charlotte was throwing up all over our bedroom, the living room, etc. etc…there wasn't really a surface she didn't cover.  She refused to get to a garbage or toilet when she had to get sick…she would just throw up wherever she was.  My solution was to only feed them food that matched my living room decor (light colors), and to put towels all over the house.  Oy.

When the weekend passed and Jon hadn't gotten sick, we thought he was out of the woods.  But that's the thing about the norovirus…it is sneaky like that, and no one can come away unscathed!!!  Monday night, before he was scheduled to fly out to speak at a 2-day conference, Jon succumbed.  He was up sick all night long, and then somehow got out of bed (after not sleeping a minute), went to the airport, flew to Florida, and presented in front of 200 people.  When I was sick, I couldn't have imagined gathering the strength to change my shirt…I honestly have no idea how he was physically able to do all that.  Such a dedicated employee :)

Here are some pics of our ordeal :(

I should've known that something was wrong when Henry wouldn't move from this position…poor honey badger

Charlotte…surrounded by towels.  She was so hungry, and wanted to eat, but if she even had a sip of water everything came up.  Notice I would only give her neutral colored foods haha

Sad kiddies.  We spent a lot of time in our PJs watching tv, as you can tell...

Tired, sick, cranky…all of us

Still hungry.  Attempting another food that matches my decor, so that when it inevitably came back up, the damage wasn't too severe haha

Sometimes you just need a hug from mommy

Henry thought Charlotte needed some love

So sad.  She said, "the norovirus is a real witch" hahaha

Couldn't resist

FINALLY!!! The first smile in days.  So happy to see this.

Ahhhh, my kiddies are back!

The thing with the norovirus is that it is contagious for up to 2 weeks, and the only thing that kills it is straight bleach, so it is very hard to eradicate (exhibit #1: the cruise ships).  To a germaphobe like myself, that is incredibly stressful haha. I scrubbed the heck out of our house, and quarantined the family for the next week to try and save other families from the fun we had :)

So there you have it.  We survived, haha.  But I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!!!

Xoxoxo
