Obituaries: former Kingwood resident Cale Avila dies at 32 after battle with cancer

CALIFON — Cale Douglas Avila, formerly of Kingwood Township, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, after a courageous, dignified fight against cancer. He was 32.
Born on July 11, 1979 in Flemington, Cale attended Kingwood Township Elementary School, Delaware Valley Regional High School and the University of Richmond in Richmond, Va., where he was a Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity brother. Upon graduation Cale embarked on a career in golf management, which he pursued with passion. He served as general manager for several golf courses along the East Coast.
Cale enjoyed sports, the outdoors, early mornings, cooking, writing and had a love for animals. Missed by all will be Cale’s zest for life, his creativity, and his tremendous sense of humor. His deep and lasting friendships with many will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Florence Avila; and maternal grandparents, Douglas and Miriam Stem.
Cale is survived by his lovely, remarkable wife, Meredith Shjarback Avila and their sweet 11 month-old son, Regan. They shared a love so pure and lived each day with gratitude.
Other loving survivors include his mother, Marilyn Stem Avila, father and step-mother, Ben and Denise Avila, all of Kingwood; brother Graham and his wife and son, Jacqueline and Bennett Avila of Wynnewood, Pa.; stepsister Dawn Godown of Milford; paternal grandfather, Bennett Avila of Kingwood; and parents-in-law Roger and Pam Shjarback of Charlotte, N.C. Additionally, Cale leaves behind many devoted aunts, uncles, cousins and his beloved dog, Bella.
Services: Memorial service in his honor at Kingwood Township School, Route 519, on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 8 a.m., in the gymnasium.
