Last week I took a little break from blogging with everything going on with Cale, and so I missed posting about the fact that Henry turned 18 months old…it seems so crazy to me that our baby is such a big boy! And don't even get me started on the fact that Charlotte is going to be 4 in less than two months, because I seriously think I'm mistaken every time I tell someone that she is almost 4…doesn't really seem possible, and it just completely boggles my mind.
Anyway, at Henry's doctor's appointment, she said he weighed 21 lbs and change, which I wholeheartedly disagree with…I would estimate he is closer to 124. Perhaps the fact that he was flailing and throwing his body from side to side impacted the accuracy of his weight, haha, but I will have to check it on my scale. He is 32" tall according to them, which would mean that he grew a lot since the last time he was there, but again--not so sure I have too much confidence in their numbers. Because he has been kind of flat on his growth and (according to them) hasn't gained any weight, they want to seem him again in 3 months for a weight check. Not exactly sure what the point of that is…it would seem to me that they would take a look at the fact that I have a 27 lb almost 4 year old, and realize we grow little kids :)
So, not very much has changed as far as Henry's behaviors/likes/dislikes since my 17 month post…he is such a good little guy, and just so funny. He does this little thing now where he looks at you to make sure you are looking, then he slowly closes his eyes and kind of bats his eyelashes like he is flirting or something…too cute. He is definitely letting us know his desires more…if he is unhappy, the entire neighborhood knows. He has become quite adept at having temper tantrums, but luckily for us, they last only about 1 minute! He has learned how to escape from baby jail, and once he gets out, he is NOT stopping for anything…he just runs as fast as he possibly can away from the living room, haha. On the move, and he doesn't really care where he is going as long as it is not where he came from! He is quite adventurous, climbing, jumping, exploring…good thing he is such a brave boy…when he gets hurt, even if it is something that would stop an adult in his/her tracks (and send Charlotte into full-blown hysteria), he just bends down, rubs where it hurts for about 30 seconds, and get back to whatever it was he was doing.
He has been VERY difficult to feed and to change…the pediatrician saw what he does when I attempt to change him, and said "that is when I decided to potty train my 18 month old", haha. Can't imagine even attempting that as he can't talk yet and can't verbalize (or recognize, probably) the need to go to the bathroom, so I don't think we will be doing that any time soon, although it will be a grand day when I am not wrestling his multiple times a day! :)
Henry still isn't talking very much…"dada" has taken on different inflections and meanings (for example, "da DAAA" with a wave means "goodbye"), he says "no" all of the time, "whoa" when he does something he thinks we should be proud of, "uh oh" when he throws his food or does something completely deliberately, he says "yes", "cac cac" for duck, barks like a dog, says "whatsat?" (one word) every time he hears something interesting, and signs "more" and "please/thank you" (kind of interchangeably)…but that is the extent of his language skills. Normally I would be very worried, but being that Charlotte was exactly like this, I am trying to relax about it :)
He is very cute with his blankies…he loves putting them up to his face and playing with the tag, and must have them to fall asleep. He is still taking 2 naps a day (from 915-1030am and then 1:30-415pm), and goes to bed between 7-745pm. He only wants to feed himself, and I have to have 2 spoons/forks whenever he's eating so he can use one and I can try to get a mouthful in here and there (needless to say, most of the food ends up on his lap!).
Here are some recent pics...
Cuddling with mommy (and his blankie)...
Cuddling again :)
Being silly…he was trying to hide behind the bottle, haha
Henry James is just a joy to be around. We love our little honey badger :)
Xoxoxo
