Merry, Happy…Everything!

Okay, so we know that I've been having some computer issues…add that to the fact that I took a little break from blogging before Christmas, and it has been a very long time since I've written anything.  So, here is a recap of our holidays...

The week before Christmas was really nice…Jon had off the entire week, so it was nice to spend some extended time together as a family.  Jon even got a chance to play "Mr. Mom" the day I worked…he took care of the kiddies all day, cleaned the house top to bottom…and ordered some really good take-out, haha.  When I called him during lunch, he told me he was "dominating Daddy day", and may have even claimed it was "easy peasy lemon squeezy" :)  He had changed his tune when I arrived home around dinnertime, however, and I think he was asleep on the floor by around 815pm!

We ended up going out to my parents' house at the beginning of the week, which made Charlotte extremely happy…the entire drive out there she was saying "Cas has been MISSING me, he is going to kiss me all over my body!!!".  And when we got there, he did, and she was thrilled.  She was excited to see Mamie and Poppy too, of course.

Unfortunately, Henry was a bit fussy for most of the time we were in HB…he had his MMR shot 10 days before we arrived at Mamie's, and the doctor said that kids could sometimes be irritable and unhappy ~10-14 days after the injection…but he was also getting 2 eye teeth…and his nose was running, so who really knows what it was.  All we know is that he certainly wasn't his happy go-lucky self…poor kid.  And poor us :)

On Wednesday, Jon went to the Borgata for a crazy night with his friends (and to lose some money, too), and on Thursday, we went to Jon's holiday party in the city, so it was nice to get out for a little adult-only time (a big thank you to Mamie, Poppy and Grandma for babysitting).  The rest of the week was spent doing some last-minute shopping, wrapping and preparing for Christmas…along with some trips to Petco, walks around the neighborhood, playing on the back deck, and making lots of Christmas cookies, of course…all that fun stuff (I should mention that the weather was unseasonably warm…in the 50s and 60s even.  Big change from the frigid temps and 20" of snow we got last December!  If only the entire winter could be this mild…).

On Christmas Eve we all went to mass at St. Rosalie's.  Unfortunately, about 4 minutes after we got there, Jon had to take Henry home…he wanted to run up and down the aisles, wouldn't sit still, and started having a temper tantrum every time we tried to pick him up.  I don't think Jon minded having to leave though :)  Charlotte, on the other hand, was an angel.  Just like last year, she used this mass and the beautiful choir as her back-up, and put on a wonderful dancing performance.  She even tried to get Uncle Ray and James to dance, but settled for them twirling her.  Charlotte also asked Ray and James to hold hands, which made us all giggle a little bit…picturing my two adult brothers standing in the back of the church (where everyone can see them) holding hands and being bossed around by Charlotte :)  After mass, we went back to my parents' house for dinner with the Bodkins…everyone had a great time and great food, as usual.  I love Christmas Eve…I can still remember the sheer excitement I felt as a child the night before Christmas, and LOVE that Charlotte feels that now (Henry is still a bit young).  So magical.  After dinner and dessert and playing with some toys, we put out Santa's cookies/milk and some carrots for the reindeer and called it a night!  Surprisingly, Charlotte went right to sleep…

When Charlotte woke up, Jon brought her right down to our room…on her way down, she saw her dollhouse and started telling me "Santa came! Santa came!", but she still came into our room and watched tv for about 20 min when everyone else got up.  When we went into the living room, she made a beeline for the presents as a sleepy Henry looked around the room wondering what exactly was going on, haha.  Here is a video from that morning…hope it works (never know on this stupid computer!).

Soon, the kids were tearing into their presents…and by "kids", I mean Charlotte.  And by "their presents", I mean any present that was within her reach, haha.  She pretty much thought that everything there was for her :)  Henry kind of ambled around, playing with things here and there, but he is still kind of young to care about the whole present thing.

Christmas Day dinner was at my parents' house too, which was nice because we didn't have to go anywhere!  The kids were able to play with their toys and nap and just enjoy their day.  More great food, good company…it was a very fun day, and it is always wonderful to spend time with our family, although I felt like I was hit by a Mack truck by about 6pm.  If I felt like that, can't imagine what my mom felt like after having two back-to-back dinners for 16+ people!  Amazing.

The next week was more of the same…relaxing with the family, playing with new Christmas presents, returning some Christmas presents, etc.  New Years Eve was somewhat uneventful…we got the kids Friendly's for dinner (fancy fancy), and Jon and I went to our friend's house for dinner and drinks.  This was actually the first time in many years that Jon and I were awake at midnight (by choice), although we were tucked in bed by 1215am, haha.  And the next day, we cleared out of Mamie and Poppy's house and moved our little family back to RVC…and while I am sure they like having us for a short period of time, I think they are more than ready to relish in the quiet by the time we vacate! :)

Anyway, since it takes me a year and a half to individually post photos, here is a link to all of our December photos!

Still find it hard to believe that it is January 2012…kind of still feels like the holidays were a whirlwind.  Funny how that always happens in Nov/Dec, but now the next few months drag on.  Especially now that I can't use the phrase "Santa's watching" to keep the kids' behavior in check, haha.

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.  Happy Holidays from the Rocafort family :)
