A Great Night...

Cale's fundraiser was on Saturday night, and it was an absolutely amazing night…we had well over 100 people (maybe closer to 150) who flew in from all over the country for Cale.  It was a wonderful night with great people, and it went off without a hitch…I am ecstatic that Cale and Mer were able to be there to feel all of the love and support.  Unfortunately, I was too busy selling raffle tickets (and drinking wine) to take any pictures, but here is a lovely picture of Cale, Meredith and Regan…the reason we were all there.

It was so great to see all of our Richmond friends--many of whom haven't spoken to Cale since graduation--make the effort to travel to NYC.  It felt like a bit of a reunion…of course it would've been less bittersweet if it weren't because Cale has terminal cancer, but it was nice that everyone gathered for such a great cause.  It was as if nothing changed…no time had passed….everyone felt so comfortable and it was just like old times.  Complete with beer pong, of course :)

Preliminary estimates are that we made about $9200 in cash, but that doesn't count all of the checks (there were a lot) and paypal donations.  We also raised over $10K before Saturday night, so we are hovering around the $20K mark.  Peanuts to some, but not to a 28 yr old woman who will be a single mother to a 1 yr old in a very short period of time…so I am happy with that.  We have also set up a 529 Education Account for Regan, so I am hoping we can raise some money to help pay for his college.  A few of our friends mentioned that we should make the fundraiser an annual thing…while good in theory, I am not so sure I am going to be able to do this every year, haha.  It was a lot…maybe if we scrap the baskets and make a higher cover donation I would be game :)

Even though we made a good amount of money on Saturday, I feel like that is secondary to the fact that Cale was able to make it to the event and see so many friends and family members who gathered in honor of him…his mom kept on telling me "this just warms his heart", and that is just about the best thing I could've heard.  A very emotional night indeed.
