Making strides…

Needless to say, I didn’t have high hopes for ballet and soccer this week after what happened last week.  On Wednesday we had ballet, and it went pretty much as I expected…which essentially means that I sat in the lobby with Charlotte as she refused to go into class with the other kids.  There was no way I was getting her in there (although it wasn’t due to lack of effort on my part!), so we cut our losses and withdrew from ballet…there is always next year, I suppose.

I was fully prepared to walk away from soccer as well, but decided to give it one more try.  And I am pleased to report that I was pleasantly surprised!  When we first got there, she refused to even walk into the room…she stayed outside in the hall in her hat, gloves and jacket.  I just sat down on the turf with Henry and watched the other kids.  After a few minutes, she made her way onto my lap…still in her hat and jacket at this point.  About 10 min later, she gets up from my lap out of nowhere and started sprinting down the field towards the goal (still in her hat and jacket).  She ran back so excited asking me if I was proud of her and giving me a hug…she also bent down to Henry and said “see that, Henry, you see that?”.  She still wouldn’t sit with the other kids on the “magic carpet”, but she started to participate in all of the field activities.  A few minutes later I got her hat off…then a few minutes after that, I got her jacket off…and then by the time class was almost over, I got her orange soccer t-shirt on :)

But I have to say…she was a fantastic soccer player!  The other kids were running in all different directions (away from the goal) and knocking over cones, while Charlotte was dribbling around cones right to the goal.  And every time she would get it in, she would put her hands in the air and scream “goal”….so cute.  And by the end of class, she was interacting with the coaches and being a teacher’s pet.  She even stole a ball away from a boy, haha.  So, there you go!  I am glad we tried again.  Here are some pics:

There she is out in the hallway, as far away as she can get…

The picture is fuzzy, but you can see that she is actually on the “magic carpet” and participating!

As for Henry, he is doing well…he is pushing up more on his hands and is starting to try and get on all fours (kind of by doing some weird rocking move).  And he is definitely sitting up better.  But the physical therapist said that when kids are reaching milestones (such as sitting), the tort tends to get more pronounced.  So now of course I have been worried about that…but we are still going to therapy 2x a week, repositioning and doing exercises, so that is about all we can do.

Henry still has such a wonderful temperament…even when we (or the therapist) are stretching him or making him do exercises he doesn’t want to be doing.  He is just such a good boy and such a love.  He doesn’t even cry when he is hungry…what baby doesn’t cry when hungry?!  He just chews on his fists.  Unfortunately, he does that a lot of that time anyway because he is teething, but luckily I can tell when it is a hungry chew vs. a teething chew :)

He saves his biggest smiles for his big sister…it is such a joy to watch him just absolutely light up when she talks to him.  Here are some pictures of the two of them:

And here is Charlotte feeding Henry his dinner…it has become part of our little routine.  Every night when I am cooking our dinner, Charlotte feeds Henry his dinner.  Granted, she needs some supervision, but she is actually really good with him (although she sneaks spoonfuls of his apples and sweet potatoes, so he doesn’t actually eat as much as it looks like he eats!)…and as you can see from his smile, he seems to enjoy it as much as she does :)

Oh, and big news…in a (very) surprising development, Henry slept through the night last Thursday (it was Jan. 20th, in honor of my Mamie’s birthday perhaps?)!!!  We gave him the bottle at 10:30pm, and then he fussed a bit in the middle of the night, but we didn’t feed him again until 7am.  Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened again though.  It is going to be so heavenly when we can put both of the kids down at 7-7:30pm and have them sleep until 7am…can’t wait!

Okay, I am off to give Henry his dreamfeed :)

Xoxoxo
