Recent Events

On Saturday, Jan. 6th, we all went to see Disney on Ice: Princess Diaries at Nassau Coliseum.  Needless to say, Charlotte was beyond excited and kept on talking about how she was going to “Princessland” and she was going to talk to “Cindy” (aka Cinderella).  We had really great seats (only a few rows behind the ice), and I have to say, it was enjoyable even for adults!  I found myself singing along more than once (which I am sure isn’t that surprising to those of you who know me well).

Here is “Under the Sea” from the Little Mermaid, which was my personal favorite!

And here are the Seven Dwarfs from Snow White…

For the whole first half, Charlotte sat on my lap and watched in amazement, alternating between clapping and holding her Cinderella princess wand (which set us back $20!).  Then after intermission, something clicked and she realized she could really ENJOY the show—Charlotte style—so she started jumping and dancing and singing in front of our seats.  She kept on doing arabesques, and when the men would lift the women up in the air, she would scream, “do that to me! do that to me!”.  Needless to say, we have been practicing our skating quite a bit at home. :)

Henry also came to the show, and although he did sleep through a lot of it, I caught him peeking once or twice!  Speaking of Henry, his rolling is going to be the end of me…on 1/3/10, Henry mastered the art of rolling back to belly.  So now he CAN roll both ways…but that doesn’t mean he will.  Especially in the middle of the night.  And it is killing us!  I’ve been averaging around 4-4.5 hours of (very) interrupted sleep, and I’m not sure how long I can continue to do this.  I sense some sleep training in our very near future.

Maybe I should work on sleep training Henry and potty training Charlotte at the same time, just to make things a little bit more interesting?! :)  Actually, Charlotte has been doing really well recently…if we are home, she will always pee on the potty.  But that is as far as we have gotten…#2 has presented quite a struggle, and I’m not quite ready to fight that fight (the last time we tried, Charlotte just withheld for 2 days and was rolling on the floor in pain, until we finally put a diaper on her).

We have also started Henry on solids.  When we had that big snowstorm on Dec. 26th, we made sweet potatoes and gave him a little taste.  But we just started giving him solids on a regular basis…he gets a little bit every night for “dinner”.  Like we did with Charlotte, we skipped the rice cereal and went straight to the good stuff…so far, he has had sweet potatoes, pears and apples.  The apples seem to be his favorite.  And of course Charlotte is mommy’s little helper, having to “feed her baby”.  Every night we put Henry in Charlotte’s highchair (she tells me “I share with him because I a big sister”), Charlotte pulls a chair up alongside him, and she feeds him…yes, he ends up with more of the food on his face than in his mouth, but they both appear to enjoy this time!  Here is a pic of them in action…so cute.

And lastly, a funny story—the other day I was changing Henry and Charlotte was “helping” me, as always.  She got a confused look on her face and said, “mommy, Henry’s penis looks like a bagel”. :)  You can’t make this stuff up…I think that is one for the baby books!
