All good things must come to an end…

Yes, Henry…mama’s done.  No more nursing or pumping. I have been feeling nauseous pretty much everyday for weeks now, and I finally needed to start taking Prevacid (which is helping only slightly).  I was getting sick of pumping and dumping, and so I’ve closed up shop. We made it almost 8 months, so it was still a pretty good run! :)  While my little black bag has served me very well (between Charlotte and Henry), I am ready to retire him!

In other news, Henry has to get a CT scan next week. Ever since he was a newborn, I have been asking the docs about his small soft spot and whether it was okay…they just said they would watch it.  But I guess his head didn’t grow much this last month, and so they want to do a CT scan to see if his soft spot has prematurely fused.  He has to be sedated, but the procedure should be relatively quick…still, I’m a nervous wreck. I just have a pit in my stomach. He is such a good boy, and I hate the thought of him having to go through any of this. I can’t stop thinking about the road ahead if it has prematurely closed :(

He was (uncharacteristic) fussy this past week, and yesterday it all made sense as one tooth poked through his gums (right next to his first tooth on the bottom), and it looks as if a few more are right on the verge!  Soon he will have a mouth full, which will make him very happy because he looks like he wants a real meal and routinely lunges for our food…none of this baby food nonsense for Henry, haha.

Henry is also getting around very quickly these days…if I turn around for a second, he is gone! So baby jail is my savior at this point…and it is even better when Charlotte gets in there with Henry so I know both of them are contained.  The funny part is that Henry seems to know exactly where he should NOT be…like the fireplace! He will crawl there as quickly as possible, and then as he gets right there, he turns around to me as if to say, “aren’t you going to stop me? I’m not supposed to be here”! He knows.

Speaking of Charlotte, she is doing well.  The other day I went to pick her up from “school”, and the teacher handed me her school pictures. Charlotte never even told me she had her picture taken! And the crazy part is that they are true, posed, school pictures. It makes me sad, because she looks sooooooo old! I have visions of her taking these pictures as a 6th grader, and I know I am going to blink and we will be there. Ahhhh! Anyway, here is the sheet with the proofs…

Mamie, Charlotte, Henry and I went to the circus at Nassau Coliseum a few weeks ago…I think Charlotte was entertained, but it definitely wasn’t as big of a hit as Disney on Ice or Yo Gabba Gabba.  The clown acts were kind of drawn out, and by the end of the first part of the circus, Charlotte was standing with her back to the performers, looking up into the audience. Which, ironically, was how my mom said I watched my first circus!  And I was reminded once again that I am not a fan of the circus. I hate clowns. And I feel like every act is like 5 min too long. So, I don’t think we will be rushing back there any time soon. Henry stayed awake for this show, but was pretty nonplussed. I think we were all glad to leave at intermission.  Here are some pictures of the kids’ first (last?!) circus experience…

From there, we went out to my parents’ house for a few days, which was nice.  It is always great to be out there.  The day we got there it was absolutely beautiful…60 degrees and sunny. So we spent some time out on the deck…I turned around for a minute, and this is what I found.  Second child? :)

A few days later, though, and it was back in the low 40’s. Ugh.  But Henry still had fun, because he got to use his walker for the first time.

Seems like just yesterday Charlotte was in that thing!

When we were at my parents’ house, we also took the kids to the St. Patrick’s Day parade. I think Charlotte enjoyed it…she seemed excited about the trucks and animals.  There were a lot of kids there, so she mostly watched them running around.  Later when we got home, Jon said, “did you see all the kids running around like wild? Why didn’t you go run with them?”. And she said, “I don’t run wild. I run normal”.  Which is true…she doesn’t like to run around like crazy, she likes to hang out with mature/calm children, haha.  At least she realizes that about herself.  Jon and I actually put them down for their nap and then went back to the parade. It was nice to hang out with friends for a few drinks.  Here is a picture of Jon and his BFF doing their best Zoolander impression :)

And here is what happens when you ask a drunk person to take a picture.

Good thing I’m short…I’m the only one whose head didn’t get cut off :)

We have also been celebrating a lot of birthdays…first Uncle Ray’s 29th on March 20th, and yesterday was Grandma’s birthday. Charlotte and I made a cake for Uncle Ray, and then we had a nice birthday dinner at my parents’ house.

For Grandma’s birthday we went to brunch at a restaurant on the boardwalk in Long Beach. Good food, bad service. Then we came back to the house and had cake…Charlotte and I made Grandma’s favorite—yellow cake, apricot filling and chocolate icing. Next up on the birthday train is Charlotte’s 3rd birthday…amazing.

And as I was talking about last time, Charlotte’s hysterically funny comments continue.  Here are a few of the recent ones:

--I gave her a glass tea cup filled with milk, and we were sitting down on the floor to have a picnic, but she kept on moving around and knocking things over and I was afraid we were going to spill the milk and/or break the cup and was telling her to be careful.  She grabbed my hands, looked at me and said, “you’re nervous, aren’t you? Don’t worry mommy…it is fine”. Nervous? Me?!

--The other day we were in Charlotte’s room playing, and I left them there and ran into my room to grab something.  Through the monitor, I heard Charlotte tell Henry, “I love you and you’re important”. Melts my heart.

--The other day Charlotte was sitting on the couch and had a really pained look on her face. I said, “what’s wrong honey? You okay?”. She said “no, I not…I sick mommy. I sick”. So I asked her what was wrong, and she turned to me with the saddest of faces and said, “my foot is so nauseous”. I hate when that happens.

--And yes, potty training results in some funny (TMI) comments…Charlotte usually poops on her little potty, but one night as Jon was putting her to sleep she wanted to go on the big potty. She pooped, and it hit the water and splashed up. She said to Jon, “that ever happen to you? When you poop, it hits the water and then you get all wet? It happens to me…and it happens to mommy all the time”.  Both lies, but still funny.
